Fashionistas flock to Jacobs, fanning furiously in hot room
Electric orange. Flame scarlet. The colors were hot at the Marc by Marc Jacobs show Monday, and so was the room, with fashionistas fanning themselves furiously in the sultry New York State Armory.Still,China garlic, nobody seemed to mind, and the models didn’t break a sweat, especially those lucky enough to display his adorable swimsuits.And speaking of swimsuits, hurray for the one-piece! Not a bikini was in sight. Instead there were three fun one-pieces, the best of them a flame scarlet number with a peplum for flair. Another hit was a ruffle-less striped maillot.
Peplums were big for women in general, finding their way onto dresses too. For the guys, Jacobs seemed to favor trousers with stripes down the side.One felt a little sorry for the models in coats, though thankfully most of the outerwear was in a relatively cool-looking cotton twill.And perhaps in a tribute to the U.S. Open — wrapping up at that very moment in nearby Queens — a “lava multi flavin” striped dress appeared, looking perfect for use on Center Court, Jacobs said in his notes.
There were some fancier pieces in Jacobs’ casual line, including a dark blue taffeta dress with a huge pocket sticking out one side. The same pocket was seen on a lava-colored taffeta skirt.There was a versatile midnight blue satin coat, useful for covering up a little black dress. And for the guys, you’d have to be brave, but how about a fuchsia twill ensemble to light up the evening?Jacobs himself was in the house, but zipped out so quickly to get to fittings for his main show on Thursday night that most of his fans didn’t get a glimpse of him.
An Overland Park bridal store is remembering 9/11 by helping women serving in the military have a wedding they won’t forget. Belle Vogue Bridal is meeting with 30 to 40 future military brides on Friday and giving them wedding dresses for free.
“It’s our way to be able to give back to the troops,” a bridal store employee said. Some of the dresses are valued at more than $2,000. “I do think it’s a winner, I’m trying to decide between this one and that one,” one future bride told KMBC’s Lisa Teachman.
